Day 13 - Thinking/Worrying about packing our bags

Flashback to Tampa airport - 16 months ago - 6 am - We are late to the airport because the hotel shuttle doesn't get to the hotel on time. We try to check-in for our flight to Puerto Rico, with two 50-pound bags each, only to find out that each of us is only allowed 70 lbs, not 100 lbs. With already completely packed to the brim carry-on and personal items, we each throw away around 30 lbs of luggage to make weight. We go through the line a total of THREE times to try to check in - each time being told that we are still overweight, since they won't allow us to use the luggage scales without being in line. We barely make it on the Puerto Rico flight. We get to Dominica later that day, are basically trapped by the welcome committee for what felt like hours, then get to our apartment that night, hungry and tired, only to find out that to make weight we threw away all the food we brought with us - except for two granola bars that were shoved into my pillowcase. It was a horrible day. A day I would never want to repeat.

Thinking about whats coming up in 13 days - We are flying out on Liat. We are each allowed a 50 lb bag, a 15 lb carry-on and a personal item. I almost want to pack and weigh our bags now, so I can get over all the anxiety that packing gives me, and get rid of everything that won't make weight, but I gave myself the goal of waiting to pack until this Sunday. Packing 7 days early isn't too crazy...right?? I mean, its a little crazy, but I'm thinking thats what I might need to do. I want to be able to enjoy my last few days on the island and not have a panic attack about packing.

  1. good luck with the packing! I don't think 7 days is too earlier, I was packed for our trip to London about 6 days out & that was just a vacation ;)
